iMovieLocationEditor

Introducing iMovieLocationEditor, a handy tool designed to enhance the map feature in iMovie by allowing you to add your own custom locations. While iMovie’s map feature is great for adding context to your holiday videos, it’s limited to Apple’s predefined list of 1600 locations. With iMovieLocationEditor, you can expand this list by adding your own locations, either by typing in the coordinates or fetching them directly from Google Earth.

To use iMovieLocationEditor, ensure that you have ‘write’ permissions for iMovie. If you encounter any issues, simply navigate to the iMovie icon in your applications folder, access “Get Info” from the File menu, and grant ‘write’ permissions to everyone.

Unlike simply renaming existing locations, iMovieLocationEditor adds entirely new geographic coordinates to the list, allowing you to feature them in your next masterpiece. The process is straightforward:

  1. Open iMovieLocationEditor.
  2. Choose one of the following options:
    • Open Google Earth, navigate to the desired location, and click ‘Get coordinates from Google Earth.’
    • Type in the coordinates (decimal latitude and longitude) manually.
  3. Enter the place name, area, and country.
  4. Click ‘Insert into iMovie,’ and you’re done!

For added convenience, iMovieLocationEditor includes a backup of the original iMovie location list in case any issues arise. If you need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out using the contact information provided.
